Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty Care Coordinator - Operating Room

Provides clinical guidance, mentoring, and OR coordination for a specialty service line; circulates and scrubs when needed, supports scheduling, preference cards, instruments, equipment, and staff training. Requires RN licensure in NYS and 3+ years OR nursing experience.

Job Description

Compensation: $40.08 to $63.12 per hour (Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.)

The Impact You Can Make

The OR Specialty Care Coordinator works collaboratively with the Perioperative Leadership Team and Operating Room Team to provide guidance, clinical expertise and mentoring to members of the health care team. The position ensures that the specific service line runs efficiently and the appropriate equipment/products are available for patient care. This position reports directly to the Nurse Manager, Operating Room.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities)

  • Collaborate with Scheduling Secretary and OR leadership to manage resources and schedule for service line.
  • Provide support for new surgeons including developing preference cards, reviewing surgical instrument needs, and equipment needs.
  • Create and maintain preference cards in collaboration with surgeons within service lines that are supported.
  • Collaborate with Sterile Processing to maintain count sheets, ensure instruments are maintained, and coordinate instruments needed for cases.
  • Act as the clinical expert for perioperative services personnel within the assigned specialty line utilizing evidence-based practice and policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Circulate surgical procedures when need and scrub if applicable
  • Collaborates with the Director of Perioperative Services and the Administrative Director, Perioperative Services, regarding the specialties operational budget as well as capital budget needs.
  • Works collaboratively with Assistant Nurse Manager to manage flow and resources to ensure efficiency in OR operations daily.
  • Completes outdates and reviews equipment to ensure equipment is operational.
  • Supports turnover and preparation for next case in conjunction with assigned clinical staff.
  • Provide educational in-services for staff related to assigned service line in conjunction with nurse educator when needed.
  • Assists in training/precepting new staff within their designated service line.


What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Education & Experience: Graduation from a Registered Professional Nursing Program required (BSN Preferred). Three (3) plus years' experience in Operating Room Nursing required.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Current licensure to practice Registered Professional Nursing in NYS.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge related to the age and development of the patient population served through self-development and participation in unit and departmental in-services on a regular basis, including age-specific competencies on the Learning Network.
    • Able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
    • Demonstrates customer service skills consistent with GFH values and mission.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as instructions, policies, and procedures.
