Job Description

Compensation: $21.00 to $30.50 per hour (Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.)

Help us keep our hospital safe. We are looking for a reliable Security Officer to protect our patients, staff, and visitors.

Hospitals need to be safe spaces for healing. As a Security Officer at Glens Falls Hospital, you are the person our nurses, doctors, and patients rely on to keep the peace. You aren't just watching monitors; you are a visible, helpful presence on campus who handles everything from parking lot assists to calming tense situations in the Emergency Department.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential (Responsibilities)

Patrol and Monitor: Walk the hospital buildings and grounds, staff our visitor check-in stations, and guide people through the Emergency Department metal detectors.

Be Helpful: Respond to calls for help from nurses or doctors, escort visitors, and pitch in with minor roadside help like jump-starting a car in the lot.

Defuse Tense Situations: Use your communication and de-escalation skills to calm down individuals who might be aggressive, upset, or confused.

Support the Team: Stand by to assist clinical staff during high-risk patient situations, handle emergency codes immediately, and work with local police when necessary.

Handle Sensitive Tasks: Log and secure patient valuables, handle confidential shift reports on the computer, and manage the respectful release of remains to funeral homes or coroners.

Stay Trained: Complete your required annual New York State security training, crisis intervention (CIT) courses, and emergency drills on the clock.

What You'll Bring (Qualifications)

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Security Experience preferred.

Licensure: Active New York State Security Guard Certification and a valid driver's license

Skills/Abilities:

o Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and policies/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

o Project a professional image. Must be friendly, personable and always alert to customer needs.

o Must be able to communicate effectively with all individuals in a friendly, positive manner and possibly in adverse situations

o Must be able to defuse possible violent situations

o Basic math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute in all units of measure

o Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations such as those relating to the security function

o Ability to use/learn computers

o Ability to balance multiple tasks/priorities

o Ability to walk stairs, stand for long periods of time, respond quickly to codes
