Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Studies

Leads multiple electrical projects, mentors junior engineers, and performs power system studies, design, troubleshooting, and commissioning for facilities power systems. Requires an electrical engineering degree, 5+ years’ experience, low-voltage power distribution, NEC/NFPA70E, AutoCAD, and periodic domestic travel.

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer or Professional Engineer (PE) with expertise in in Advanced Technology Facilities Sustaining Projects to join our Shermco team. The ideal candidate will lead multiple, simultaneous complex electrical projects, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical expertise to ensure the delivery of innovative and reliable power distribution solutions for our industrial clients.

Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership:
  • Work as a Sr. Electrical Engineer to grow our electrical engineering services
  • Responsible for mentoring less experienced Electrical Engineers, in the support of our customers.
  • Ensure that electrical engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and studies are conducted according to IEEE and NFPA standards, and Shermco excellence.
  • Review and approve ongoing and completed engineering work ensuring deadlines are met, and work is completed with accuracy and high quality.
  • Responsible for making onsite visits to customer sites and interacting with customers to gather critical information, resolve project issues, customer concerns, and review engineering plans.
  • Work with sales and support staff on the estimating and bidding of new projects; co-present project proposal to prospective customers.
  • Collaborate with and lead other team members including mechanical, civil, structural engineers and architects.

Engineering Analysis:

  • Develop detailed design drawings and construction documents for facilities projects including 480V and below system design, UPS, generator, switchgear Bus and other distribution systems.
  • Develop detailed electrical diagrams such as one-lines, three-lines, and control schematics.
  • Prepare executive level presentations, project budgets.
  • Perform detail redundancy, reliability and load calculation projection
  • Prepare detailed system operations documents for data center and similar electrical systems
  • Prepare project commissioning plans and scripts for all project disciplines. Execute commissioning activities with help from technical staff. Complete commissioning documentation and reports.
  • Perform short-circuit studies, protective device coordination, arc-flash analysis and load flow calculations to ensure system safety and reliability.

Electrical Distribution Design:
  • Design and modify electrical distribution systems, including motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, breakers, fuses, and transformers.
  • Create, review, and revise complete electrical packages and specifications.

Project Management:
  • Lead engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams, clients, and contractors to define project requirements and expectations.

System Troubleshooting & Solutions:
  • Diagnose electrical system issues and develop effective, practical solutions to resolve system deficiencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; with experience focused in Facilities Power Systems. A professional engineer licensed (PE) is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience with facilities power systems system design.
  • Must have experience with low voltage equipment for power distribution.
  • Experience in applying the NEC, NFPA70E and local codes.
  • Experience in short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, motor starting and power quality studies.
  • Experience using power system software such as SKM and ETAP, or other power system modeling software.
  • Knowledge and use of proper drafting techniques. Experience using AutoCAD .
  • Ability to read and extract information from project plans and specifications.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English via verbal and written methods and be comfortable and effective doing so directly to customers and co-workers.

Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record
  • Must be available for periodic domestic travel.
