Equipment Product Engineer

Leads engineering for ventilation equipment product lines, owning engineering changes, value engineering, DFMA, sustaining engineering, and new product development. Requires a mechanical engineering degree, 10 years' engineering experience, managerial experience, SolidWorks, and HVAC-related knowledge.

The Product Engineering Manager - Equipment leads the engineering team responsible for ADS's ventilation equipment product lines, including VAV boxes, Fan Powered Terminal Units (FPTU), Fan Coil Units (FCU), and Blower Coil Units. This role owns the Engineering Change Process, value engineering initiatives, design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), sustaining engineering, and new product development for these product lines. The Manager builds and coaches a high-performing team, raising the bar on both technical execution and team efficiency, while partnering across manufacturing, quality, sales, and operations to deliver reliable, cost-competitive products on schedule.

Product Line Scope

  • Ventilation Equipment for Air Distribution Solutions (ADS), including:

  • VAV (Variable Air Volume) Boxes

  • Fan Powered Terminal Units (FPTU)

  • Fan Coil Units (FCU)

  • Blower Coil Units (BCU)

What you'll do

  • Engineering Change Process (ECP): Own and drive the ECP for assigned product lines, ensuring changes are documented, reviewed, and implemented accurately and on schedule.

  • Value Engineering: Lead cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives to improve product COGS without sacrificing quality or reliability.

  • Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA): Apply DFMA principles to new and existing designs to improve manufacturability, reduce assembly time, and lower total installed cost.

  • Sustaining Engineering: Support existing product lines through root-cause investigations, reliability improvements, and ongoing product support.

  • New Product Development: Lead cross-functional development of new products through a Phase Gate process, from concept through launch.

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Develop new engineering talent and coach senior team members to raise the efficiency, quality, and delivery of the team's output.

  • Cross-Functional Communication: Partner with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, sales, and leadership to align on priorities and drive projects to completion.

What we look for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • 10 years engineering experience, preferably in the HVAC industry.

  • Proven managerial experience, with a track record of developing new talent and coaching senior engineers to raise team performance.

  • Working knowledge of Engineering Change Process (ECP) management.

  • Experience working within a Phase Gate-controlled new product development process.

  • Technical knowledge of blower selection and application.

  • Understanding of water- and electric-coil heat transfer principles.

  • Sheet metal design experience, including manufacturability considerations.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines - from the CEO's office to the factory floor.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with HVAC or air distribution equipment (VAV, terminal units, fan coil, or blower coil products).

  • Experience leading engineering teams across multiple manufacturing sites or global engineering centers.

  • Six Sigma, Lean, or related process-improvement certification.

  • What Success Looks Like

  • Engineering changes move through ECP on time and with clean documentation.

  • Value engineering initiatives deliver measurable COGS improvement.

  • New products launch on schedule through Phase Gate with no major quality escapes.
