Design Engineer

On-site Monday-Thursday, 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., designing tillage equipment and related electronic components, creating drawings, BOMs, and test plans, and supporting manufacturing and quality. Requires a BS in engineering or related field; PRO-E, SolidWorks, CREO, or similar and FEA software preferred.

Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a Design Engineer to join our Tillage Equipment R&D Team in Tipton, KS to bring technical aptitude in developing agricultural equipment and to bring innovation to agriculture globally.

This is an on-site position based in Tipton, KS that works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design tillage equipment and related electronic components.
  • Create detailed drawings, bill of materials, test plans, etc.
  • Utilize analysis software, evaluate field testing and recommend design modifications to optimize product designs.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, and supply management to ensure product is fabricated, welded and assembled based on the intended functionality of the design.
  • Produce and/or evaluate design solutions to improve cost, quality, and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications.
  • Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
  • Other duties may be assigned that require additional qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural or BioSystems Machinery Engineering, or related engineering discipline from a four-year college or university.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with PRO-E, SolidWorks, CREO or similar programs as well as FEA software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of farming practices and equipment
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and processes
  • Hydraulic and electronic integration skills a plus
