Supervisor Laboratory

Leads Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis lab operations, staffing, quality management, and process improvement in a 24/7 clinical laboratory. Requires 3+ years of high-complexity lab experience, a bachelor’s degree, and MT/CLS/MLS/MLT certification.

SUMMARY: The Hematology Supervisor provides operational, technical, and personnel leadership for the Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis sections of the clinical laboratory. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services across all phases of testing while maintaining compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The Hematology Supervisor oversees daily operations, staffing, quality management, employee development, and continuous process improvement within assigned areas. Working collaboratively with Laboratory Leadership, Pathologists, physicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals, this role supports safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of clinical laboratory experience in a high-complexity testing environment. Demonstrated technical expertise in Hematology and Coagulation testing. Previous supervisory, lead technologist, coordinator, charge technologist, or other laboratory leadership experience. Experience in a hospital-based laboratory. Experience with CAP accreditation, quality management programs, competency assessment, method validation and verification, and laboratory instrumentation. Experience implementing process improvement initiatives and resolving operational challenges.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Ability to lead, coach, develop, and engage laboratory staff. Strong decision-making, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing operational needs in a 24/7 laboratory environment. Ability to analyze laboratory data, identify trends, investigate issues, and implement effective corrective actions. Effective project management and process improvement skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to quality, patient safety, service excellence, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

OTHER: Strong knowledge of Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis principles, methodologies, instrumentation, quality control, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. Proficiency with laboratory information systems, middleware applications, instrumentation software, and standard computer applications.

LICENSE/CERT: Required: MT(ASCP) (Medical Technologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology), CLS(NCA) (Clinical Laboratory Scientist - National Credentialing Agency), MLS(ASCP) (Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Society for Clinical Pathology), MLT(ASCP) (Medical Laboratory Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology)
