Nursing Unit Secretary

Provides secretarial and receptionist support on a nursing unit, including coordinating communications, entering orders, admissions, and birth certificate information, and maintaining supplies and forms. Requires a high school diploma and 1 year of hospital secretarial/receptionist experience; medical terminology preferred.

SUMMARY: Neonatal ICU, Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery, Lactation, and Perinatal Education departments, With 150-200 deliveries a month, two ORs for cesarean sections, and an average daily census of eight NICU babies, our units are busy, fast-paced, and offer the opportunity to provide specialty and critical care in a collaborative and supportive environment.Our hospital has earned the Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission, setting us apart in the community as a leader in maternal and neonatal care. We work closely with Children�s Mercy neonatology specialists who staff our NICU and delivery team 24/7, as well as respiratory care and other specialists, to provide the best possible outcomes. Our culture values each team member�s expertise and input, creating a positive, patient-centered experience for our families.SUMMARY: Provides secretarial/receptionist support to nursing personnel by coordinating and directing all communications on the nursing unit and entering orders. Calls infant births to attending physician and enters admission into computer system. Enters birth certificate information to the Missouri Department of Vital Statistics. Maintains department office supplies and enters work orders for equipment maintenance and repair. Assures chart forms are readily available and stock forms drawers.

EXPERIENCE: Secretarial/receptionist. One year in hospital setting.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Medical Terminology preferred. Interpersonal and communication skills; organizational skills to perform multiple tasks.

OTHER: Basic computer/data entry skills.
