The Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing all hazardous energy control activities on site. This individual works closely with the Energy Isolation Coordinator, project management, safety teams, subcontractors, and commissioning personnel to ensure all electrical and mechanical systems are properly isolated, documented, and controlled prior to energization activities.
The LOTO Coordinator utilizes one-line drawings, panel schedules, equipment documentation, and field verification processes to identify energy sources, establish isolation boundaries, and maintain compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and project-specific energy control requirements. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Energy Isolation Planning
- Review contract documents, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and equipment documentation.
- Identify electrical and mechanical energy sources requiring isolation.
- Develop and maintain lockout/tagout documentation and isolation plans.
- Establish and verify safe boundaries for work activities.
Lockout/Tagout Coordination
- Coordinate all lockout/tagout activities among contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Verify proper application and removal of locks, tags, and isolation devices.
- Maintain LOTO logs, permit records, and tracking documentation.
- Ensure all work follows approved energy control procedures.
Field Verification & Auditing
- Perform site walkthroughs to locate and verify isolation points.
- Conduct audits of active lockout/tagout procedures.
- Inspect installations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Verify equipment is properly de-energized prior to work activities.
- Support commissioning and energization planning activities.
- Participate in pre-task planning meetings and safety briefings.
- Coordinate with commissioning teams and operations personnel during system startup.
- Track system status and communicate changes to affected stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
- Participate in incident investigations involving energy control activities.
- Maintain accurate records for client and project audits.
- Promote a strong safety culture through training and communication.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical construction, commissioning, industrial maintenance, mission critical, or energy isolation experience.
- Strong knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- One-line diagrams
- Electrical drawings
- Panel schedules
- Switching procedures
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and electronic documentation systems.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work on active construction sites and industrial environments
- NCCER Certification.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- NFPA 70E Training.
- Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician background.
- Data Center, Mission Critical, Power Generation, or Industrial Construction experience.
- Previous experience serving as a LOTO Coordinator, Energy Marshal, or Energy Isolation Coordinator.
