Compensation: $200,000 - $400,000 base + equity
We are working with a growing technology company in New York City that is looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join its engineering team.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys building new systems, solving complex data problems, and taking significant ownership over architecture and execution. You will have the opportunity to work across data engineering, software development, and modern AI/ML applications.
What You'll Do
- Design and build scalable, production-grade data systems and pipelines
- Develop systems for ingesting, processing, and organizing large and complex datasets
- Build backend services, APIs, integrations, and internal data tooling
- Own major technical initiatives from architecture through production
- Design data models and infrastructure that support data-intensive applications
- Make technical decisions around storage, orchestration, scalability, reliability, and performance
- Build reusable tools and systems that improve engineering efficiency
- Partner closely with engineering, product, and business teams to solve complex technical problems
- Help establish engineering standards, architecture patterns, and technical best practices
- Provide technical leadership while remaining highly hands-on
What We're Looking For
- Strong software engineering and computer science fundamentals
- Experience operating at a Staff, Lead, Principal, or comparable senior IC level
- Significant experience designing and building production data systems
- Strong proficiency with Python and SQL
- Experience with data modeling, databases, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience building and operating modern data pipelines and platforms
- Ability to take complex and ambiguous technical problems from concept through production
- Experience working in a startup or fast-growing technology environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building data infrastructure supporting machine learning or AI applications
- Experience with modern cloud data platforms
- Experience working with large, complex datasets
- Experience building new products, platforms, or infrastructure from an early stage
- Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders
- Advanced degree in a technical discipline
Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $400,000 per year, depending on experience and technical expertise, plus equity.
This is a full-time position based in New York City.
