Senior Cost Accountant
Based in Columbus, OH, we are a growing food manufacturing company operating multiple production facilities across the United States. We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant to support manufacturing operations through product costing, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. This role will partner closely with Operations, Procurement, Plant Leadership, and Finance to improve costing accuracy, inventory visibility, and financial reporting.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and analyze product costing and manufacturing cost models
- Review BOMs, labor standards, routings, overhead allocations, and inventory transactions
- Analyze material, labor, scrap, and manufacturing variances
- Maintain inventory valuation accuracy and investigate discrepancies
- Prepare profitability analyses by product, customer, and facility
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Review and analyze general ledger activity related to manufacturing operations
- Support inventory counts, audits, internal controls, and financial reporting
- Investigate ERP transaction discrepancies involving inventory, purchasing, and accounting
- Collaborate with Operations and Procurement teams to improve costing accuracy and reporting processes
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, stronger controls, and increased financial visibility
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in manufacturing cost accounting
- Strong understanding of product costing, inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and cost of goods sold
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables and lookup functions
- Experience working within ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
- Experience supporting inventory valuation, BOM costing, and manufacturing operations
- Food manufacturing, packaging, consumer products, multi-site manufacturing, or Odoo ERP experience is a plus
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
