About the Opportunity

A premier AmLaw firm is seeking a talented Associate to join its elite Intellectual Property team in Washington, DC. This role offers direct involvement in high-stakes patent portfolio strategy, clearance, and client counseling for dynamic, global organizations.

In this position, you will work closely with market-leading innovators, oversee technical teams, and actively participate in strategic client meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and manage domestic and international patent applications across key chemical and life sciences sectors.

  • Perform freedom-to-operate (FTO) evaluations, due diligence investigations, and patentability analyses.

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical supervision to technical specialists and junior agents.

  • Assist in managing extensive corporate patent portfolios and present findings during client strategy sessions.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2 years of patent prosecution and portfolio management experience. Prior work as a patent agent or technical specialist will be considered toward total experience.

  • Education: Strong academic background in organic chemistry, small molecules, or a related discipline required. An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) is highly preferred.

  • Bar Admissions: Registered to practice before the USPTO and admitted to at least one state bar.
