Position Overview
We are seeking Senior Water/Wastewater (W/WW) Process Engineers to lead process design and technical delivery for municipal water and wastewater projects. The role focuses on pump station and water plant process design, optimization, and construction support, ensuring compliant, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for municipal clients. The ideal candidate combines strong process engineering fundamentals with municipal design experience and the ability to mentor junior engineers and interface effectively with clients, regulators, and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead process design for pump stations, water treatment plants, and wastewater facilities, from concept through detailed design and construction support.
  • Develop process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and control narratives for municipal water and wastewater projects.
  • Perform process modeling and simulation to size equipment and optimize treatment trains using tools such as BioWin, GPSX, hydraulic models, and other process models.
  • Prepare civil/structural/piping coordination deliverables and 3D model reviews; coordinate with multidiscipline teams to integrate instrumentation, piping, and electrical systems.
  • Design chemical handling and storage systems, feed systems, and dosing arrangements with attention to safety, containment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Complete pump station hydraulic analysis and pump selection, including startup/controls, surge analysis, and system curve development.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client communications; prepare technical reports, calculations, specifications, and permit support documentation.
  • Provide construction assistance, shop drawing review, field troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning support to ensure design intent is met.
  • Lead value engineering initiatives and provide constructability reviews to reduce cost and schedule risk while maintaining performance.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff; review design work for technical accuracy and compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and prepare documentation necessary for municipal permitting and compliance.
  • Support business development activities: prepare proposals, technical scopes, and attend client meetings and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred).
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive process engineering experience supporting municipal water and/or wastewater projects, including work on pump stations and water/wastewater plants.
  • Proven experience in process design deliverables: PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing/specifications, and technical reports for municipal clients.
  • Demonstrated skills in pump station design, hydraulic analysis, and water plant process engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes, chemical storage and feed systems, instrumentation, and piping design.
  • Proficiency with process modeling and simulation tools (experience with BioWin and GPSX a plus) and hydraulic/3D modeling workflows.
  • Excellent technical writing, client communication, and project management skills; experience preparing permit and regulatory submittals.
  • Willingness to provide construction support and field services including commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred; candidates able to pursue PE licensure will be considered.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with Water Treatment and Drinking Water projects, wastewater process design, process engineer background, BioWin/GPS-X modeling, SUMO, I&C, Bluebeam, AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit 3D coordination, pipeline design, instrumentation & control, and prior municipal/utility client experience.
