Senior Tax Manager - Private Client Services
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients, as well as closely held businesses. This role will manage preparation and review of corporate and individual tax returns (Form 1040, 1120, 1120S), oversee partnership, trust and estate tax matters, and support business development for our Private Client Services practice. The ideal candidate will be a CPA with strong technical expertise in tax provisions, compliance, and advanced planning, and proven experience supervising and developing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead preparation, review, and sign-off of complex individual (1040) and corporate (1120, 1120-S) tax returns, partnership returns, trust and estate filings, and related compliance deliverables for HNW and UHNW clients.
- Manage technical tax research and position development for federal, state, and international tax issues, including tax provisions and impact analyses.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of senior staff and managers; provide coaching to ensure high-quality deliverables and professional development.
- Oversee client engagements from planning through delivery, ensuring timely completion, accuracy, and proactive communication with clients and stakeholders.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex tax questions, including partnership allocations, corporate restructuring (C-Corp and S-Corp), and estate and trust planning.
- Partner with business development teams to cultivate and grow client relationships, participate in client pitches, and identify opportunities for cross-selling tax advisory services.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (wealth advisors, trust officers, legal) to deliver integrated private client solutions for ultra-high net worth individuals (UHNWI/UHNW).
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures, best practices, and process improvements for tax preparation, review, and compliance workflows.
- Assist in tax technology adoption and LLM-enabled research workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy where appropriate.
- Manage engagement budgets, billing, and resource allocation; ensure profitability while delivering exceptional client service.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
- Minimum 710 years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting or private client services, with significant exposure to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing individual (1040), corporate (1120, 1120-S), partnership, trust, and estate tax returns.
- Strong technical knowledge of tax compliance, tax provision calculations, and advanced tax planning strategies for individuals and businesses.
- Experience with C-Corp, S-Corp, partnership taxation, and private client matters (trusts, estates, PCs).
- Proven leadership experience supervising teams, training staff, and managing multiple engagements concurrently.
- Business development acumen with a track record of client relationship management and contributing to revenue generation.
- Familiarity with tax research tools and comfort leveraging technology, including modern tax software and LLM-assisted workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-technical clients.
- Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings and business development events.
