Position Overview
Downtown Houston plaintiff's firm seeking a detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal to support our litigation team in mass tort and personal injury matters. The ideal candidate will manage case files, conduct legal research, draft pleadings and discovery, coordinate with medical providers and experts, and assist attorneys at all stages of litigation. This role requires strong organizational skills, familiarity with civil procedure and tort law, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file court documents, pleadings, motions, and discovery responses in state and federal courts; ensure compliance with filing rules and deadlines.
  • Manage large caseloads for mass tort and personal injury matters, maintain organized case files and track deadlines using case management systems.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, summarize medical records, and prepare chronologies and case summaries for attorneys.
  • Draft routine correspondence, demand letters, settlement packages, and trial materials; assist in preparing witness lists, exhibits, and demonstratives for hearings and trials.
  • Coordinate with clients, medical providers, expert witnesses, and opposing counsel; schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings.
  • Gather, review, and organize medical records, billing information, employment records, and other documents relevant to injury and tort claims.
  • Assist attorneys in trial preparation, including trial binders, exhibit notebooks, and logistics support during trial.
  • Manage discovery process: prepare interrogatories, requests for production, responses, privilege logs, and perform document review and Bates-stamping.
  • Maintain calendars for attorney deadlines, court dates, and statutes of limitations; monitor case status and prepare internal status reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and confidentiality rules in handling sensitive client and medical information, and contribute to process improvement initiatives within the litigation team.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate or associate/bachelors degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, or related field; or equivalent litigation experience.
  • 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience, demonstrated exposure to mass tort, asbestos/mesothelioma, or personal injury cases preferred
  • Strong knowledge of civil procedure, tort law, discovery practices, and court filing procedures in state and federal courts
  • Experience working with medical records and medical terminology; ability to summarize and analyze medical documentation.
  • Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office suite; experience with document review platforms and e-discovery tools preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, exercise professional judgment, and maintain client confidentiality.

Benefits

  • $70K-$90K (DOE)
  • 1099 for first 90 days
