Production Mechanic - 2nd Shift

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled 2nd Shift Production Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production and packaging equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role supports continuous manufacturing by performing mechanical, electrical and pneumatic repairs, reading blueprints and schematics, and applying quality and safety standards on the evening shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of production and packaging machinery on 2nd shift.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, control diagrams and work orders to diagnose issues and perform correct repairs.
  • Disassemble, fabricate, weld, braze and reassemble components as required using shop equipment (lathe, milling machine, drill press, acetylene torches, etc.).
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems including pumps, bearings, bushings, power transmissions, vacuum and pneumatic systems, cooling systems and piping.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults to restore equipment to production condition.
  • Follow GMP and Good Manufacturing Procedures, quality standards and production specifications to minimize defects and downtime.
  • Execute layout and line configuration adjustments to optimize flow and equipment performance.
  • Document repairs, parts used, root-cause failure analysis (RCFA) and corrective actions in maintenance records.
  • Support packaging machinery maintenance and changeovers to meet production schedules.
  • Operate hoists and other lifting equipment safely during installations and repairs.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures including OSHA regulations and Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO) practices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, breakdown response teams and assist with spare parts inventory management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing maintenance or production mechanic role. 
  • Manufacturing and Quality experience - ability to read Blueprints and Schematics, strong commitment to Safety and OSHA compliance.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with control diagrams, work orders and performing root cause failure analysis and corrective action.
  • Fabrication skills including welding, brazing and experience with acetylene torches; ability to use lathe, milling machine and drill press.
  • Experience maintaining pumps, bearings, bushings, power transmissions, vacuum and pneumatic cooling systems.
  • Familiarity with packaging machinery, line configuration and OEM equipment preferred.
  • Experience with measuring devices and precision alignment.
  • Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SOAP documentation preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces) and work 2nd shift schedule (evening hours); willing to work overtime and emergency call-ins as needed.
