Hybrid schedule (3 on, 2 off) with estate and trust administration, Surrogate's Court proceedings, probate, fiduciary matters, and estate tax compliance. Requires 5+ years of trusts and estates experience, a JD, New York Bar admission, and U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.

T&E Attorney
An established firm with over 45 years in practice is seeking a Trusts & Estates Attorney with 5+ years of experience to join its Garden City, New York office as a hybrid setting (3 on 2 off). This role will primarily focus on estate and trust administration, Surrogate's Court proceedings, probate, administration, accounting proceedings, fiduciary matters, and estate tax compliance. The position offers direct interaction with high-net-worth individuals, families, executives, business owners, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries, along with opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and partnership consideration.

Qualifications
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing
5+ years of trusts and estates experience with a primary focus on estate administration
Experience managing all phases of estate and trust administration
Experience reviewing and preparing estate tax returns
Familiarity with federal and New York estate tax compliance, including representation in audits
Estate planning experience involving wills, trusts, and related documents is preferred
Strong legal research, analytical, organizational, and matter management skills
Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
Experience supervising junior attorneys or paralegals is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interact directly with Surrogate's Court personnel, high-net-worth clients, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and counterparties
 
Responsibilities
Represent beneficiaries, executors, and trustees throughout all phases of estate and trust administration
Participate in client meetings and advise high-net-worth individuals, families, executives, and business owners on estate administration matters
Manage probate, administration, accounting, and other Surrogate's Court proceedings
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda addressing estate administration, fiduciary, and tax issues
Review and prepare federal and state estate tax returns and assist with estate tax audits
Maintain the Surrogate's Court calendar and attend court proceedings as needed
Support fiduciaries and beneficiaries throughout the estate and trust administration process
Collaborate with attorneys across the Trusts & Estates practice on sophisticated and complex matters
Supervise junior attorneys and paralegals when appropriate
