Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Litigation Attorney to handle a diverse civil litigation practice with an emphasis on real estate, corporate, business, education, landlord-tenant, and construction matters. The successful candidate will manage cases from intake through trial and appeal, develop litigation strategy, counsel clients on risk and compliance, and deliver effective advocacy in state and federal courts. This role balances courtroom representation with transactional counseling to support business, education, and construction clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full caseload of civil litigation matters including case intake, investigation, strategy development, and resolution.
- Prepare and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other court documents in state and federal courts.
- Conduct thorough legal research and draft persuasive memoranda, briefs, and court filings.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, bench and jury trials; prepare witnesses and trial exhibits.
- Advise clients on real estate and landlord-tenant disputes, including lease interpretation, eviction proceedings, and transactional issues.
- Provide counsel on corporate and business law matters such as contract disputes, entity governance, mergers and acquisitions-related litigation, and commercial collections.
- Support education-sector clients with compliance, policy disputes, disciplinary proceedings, and litigation related to schools and educational institutions.
- Handle construction-related claims including contract disputes, mechanics liens, delay and defect claims, and coordination with construction professionals.
- Negotiate settlements and alternative dispute resolution outcomes that align with client objectives.
- Draft and review contracts, settlement agreements, and transactional documents to mitigate litigation risk.
- Collaborate with partners, in-house counsel, and cross-functional teams to build coherent legal strategies and deliver client-focused results.
- Maintain accurate case management, billing records, and client communications to meet firm standards and ethical obligations.
- Mentor and supervise junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff as needed.
- Engage in business development and client relationship building to grow the practice area.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar where practice will occur.
- Minimum 4-7 years of civil litigation experience with demonstrated trial and courtroom experience.
- Proven experience handling matters in one or more of the following areas: civil litigation, real estate law, corporate law, business law, education law, landlord-tenant law, and construction law.
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills with a track record of effective court filings and courtroom performance.
- Experience advising corporate, business, education, or construction clients and drafting transactional documents and contracts.
- Comfortable managing a heavy caseload, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent negotiation skills and experience resolving disputes through settlement and alternative dispute resolution.
- Familiarity with litigation technology and case management systems; competency in e-discovery tools preferred.
- High ethical standards, client-service orientation, and the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, manage junior staff, and contribute to business development efforts.
- Availability to travel for depositions, hearings, or client meetings as required.
