Position Overview
We are seeking an Associate Attorney to join a dynamic law firm handling complex commercial litigation, corporate matters, and construction-related disputes. The attorney will manage casework from intake through resolution, provide strategic legal counsel to corporate and construction clients, and contribute to the firms growth. Ideal candidates combine strong litigation experience with knowledge of corporate and/or construction law, excellent drafting and advocacy skills, and a collaborative work style.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of complex commercial and construction litigation matters, including pleadings, discovery, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Conduct substantive legal research and draft high-quality briefs, memoranda, motions, settlement agreements, contracts, and other court filings.
  • Advise and counsel corporate and construction clients on transactional and compliance matters, contract drafting and negotiation, risk allocation, and dispute prevention.
  • Handle construction-specific matters including contract interpretation, payment disputes, delay and defect claims, mechanics liens, bond claims, and negotiation of construction-related settlements.
  • Lead and coordinate discovery efforts, including written discovery, depositions, e-discovery protocols, and working with expert witnesses.
  • Represent clients in court, arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings; prepare witnesses and manage litigation budgets and timelines.
  • Collaborate with partners and other attorneys on case strategy, file management, and client communications; develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Participate in business development activities, including client pitches, networking, and contributing to practice-area thought leadership (articles, presentations).
  • Meet firm performance standards including billable hours, timekeeping, file organization, and adherence to ethical and professional responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly).
  • 1+ years of litigation experience, with demonstrated exposure to complex commercial litigation; construction litigation experience strongly preferred.
  • Practical knowledge of construction law issues such as construction contracts, payment mechanisms, liens, bonds, change orders, delay and defect claims.
  • Proven legal research, analysis and writing skills; experience drafting persuasive motions, briefs and settlement documents.
  • Trial, arbitration, or deposition experience preferred; strong courtroom presence and advocacy skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-management skills; ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management skills, and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with litigation support and e-discovery tools; proficiency with common office software and case management systems.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuing legal education; motivated to contribute to a collaborative, client-focused practice.
