Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and deliver mechanical system designs for commercial and residential building projects. The ideal candidate will produce detailed HVAC and mechanical system drawings, perform calculations and equipment selection, coordinate with architects and other engineering disciplines, and ensure designs meet code, budget, and schedule requirements. Strong experience with AutoCAD and Revit, practical HVAC knowledge, and a solutions-oriented approach are highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed mechanical and HVAC system designs, layouts, and schematics for new construction and renovation projects
  • Create and revise construction drawings and documentation using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Perform heating, cooling, ventilation, ductwork and piping calculations and select appropriate equipment and components
  • Prepare specifications, material takeoffs, and cost estimates to support project budgeting
  • Coordinate with architects, structural and electrical engineers, contractors, and owners to integrate mechanical systems with overall project requirements
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, standards (e.g., ASHRAE), and local regulations
  • Participate in site visits and inspections to verify installation and resolve field issues
  • Support project delivery by producing construction bid packages, responding to RFIs, and issuing design revisions as needed
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating feedback, lessons learned, and best practices into future designs

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design, preferably in building services or consulting engineering
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and Revit (BIM) for 3D modeling and coordination
  • Strong understanding of HVAC principles, equipment selection, duct and piping design, and system balancing
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes) and experience producing compliant designs
  • Demonstrated ability to perform load calculations and prepare equipment schedules and specifications
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with experience coordinating multidisciplinary projects
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or pursuit of licensure is a plus
