Position Overview
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Senior Superintendent - Electrical will lead on-site execution for electrical scopes on mission-critical and data center projects. The roles primary objective is to deliver safe, on-time, on-budget installation, coordination and commissioning of medium- and low-voltage power systems, standby generation, UPS/battery systems, structured cabling and associated MEP systems while ensuring compliance with project specifications, NEC/NFPA codes and Uptime Institute standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of electrical construction crews, subcontractors and vendors; enforce safe work practices and the project site safety plan (OSHA/HSE/LOTO).
  • Plan, schedule and sequence electrical work in coordination with general construction, MEP trades and client operations to meet milestones and minimize downtime. Use MS Project and/or Primavera P6 to manage schedule and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate installation and testing of medium-voltage distribution, low-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), UPS systems, battery systems, PDUs, bus duct and cable tray.
  • Oversee structured cabling and fiber optic splicing, raised access floor installation, hot/cold aisle containment and other data center-specific infrastructure elements.
  • Manage installation, testing and balancing (TAB) and commissioning activities (FAT/SAT/TAB) for electrical and mechanical interfaces; coordinate with commissioning engineers and third-party testing agencies.
  • Ensure NEC/NFPA code compliance and adherence to project specifications, Uptime Institute Tier requirements and ASHRAE standards; lead site inspections and approve work for punch lists and closeout.
  • Supervise HVAC and cooling system interfaces including chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, HVAC controls and Building Management Systems (BMS); coordinate PLC/SCADA integration where required.
  • Administer quality control processes: review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and engineer approvals; manage change orders and commercial documentation.
  • Oversee crane, rigging and hoisting operations for heavy equipment handling; ensure lifting plans and certifications are in place.
  • Operate project management and field documentation tools (Procore/PlanGrid/Bluebeam); maintain daily reports, logs, and workforce/material tracking.
  • Perform thermal imaging / IR thermography inspections and electrical troubleshooting to identify hot spots and reliability issues.
  • Coach and mentor superintendents, forepersons and craft personnel; enforce company policies, productivity targets and client expectations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive field experience in electrical construction with a minimum of 5 years as a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent on large commercial, industrial or data center projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical scopes in mission-critical or data center environments, including medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution systems.
  • Proven knowledge of switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS and battery systems, ATS, PDUs, bus duct and cable tray installations.
  • Experience with structured cabling and fiber optic splicing, raised access floors, and hot/cold aisle containment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and cooling systems (chillers, CRAC/CRAH, chilled water systems, cooling towers), HVAC controls, pumps, VFDs, and BMS integration.
  • Strong commissioning and testing experience (FAT/SAT/TAB) and familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier Standards and ASHRAE guidance.
  • Solid understanding of NEC and NFPA codes, fire suppression systems (preaction, FM-200/Novec, dry pipe), fire alarm/VESDA, access control and CCTV.
  • Proficiency with BIM/Revit coordination and clash detection workflows; experience using MS Project and/or Primavera P6 for scheduling.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam) and proven ability to manage submittals, RFIs and change orders.
  • OSHA 30 certification and demonstrated commitment to site safety; experience with LOTO and HSE programs.
  • Experience with crane/rigging/hoisting operations and developing lift plans.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to mentor field staff and collaborate with clients, engineers and subcontractors.
  • Preferred certifications: Journeyman or Master Electrician license, NCCER/NICET certification, PMP or commissioning credentials; thermal imaging/IR thermography certification is a plus.
