Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to create efficient, code-compliant fire sprinkler system designs for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. The designer will develop layouts, perform hydraulic calculations, and produce construction-ready drawings and specifications that meet NFPA and local building code requirements. The role requires collaboration with engineers, contractors, and project teams to ensure systems are robust, cost-effective, and constructible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop fire sprinkler system layouts and detailed construction drawings using AutoSPRINK and CAD software.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and selection of pipe sizes, fittings, and sprinkler heads to meet NFPA standards and project requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, local building and fire codes) and prepare code compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers, architects, and contractors to integrate sprinkler systems into overall building design.
  • Prepare specifications, material lists, and equipment schedules; review submittals and shop drawings.
  • Provide technical support during permitting, bidding, and construction phases, including responding to RFIs and attending site visits.
  • Produce as-built drawings and closeout documentation following installation and field verification.
  • Review existing systems for renovation or expansion projects and recommend upgrades or modifications.
  • Maintain project files, calculation logs, and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and constructability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fire sprinkler or fire protection design; designers with broader experience considered.
  • NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout or Design preferred.
  • Proven experience designing fire sprinkler systems using AutoSPRINK and producing drawings in AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, fire codes, hydraulic calculations, and sprinkler system types (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to coordinate across disciplines and interact professionally with clients and contractors.
  • Familiarity with construction processes, material specifications, and shop drawing review. Ability to visit job sites as needed.
