Job description

The Role

We’re looking for a Recruiting Systems & Data Integration Engineer to build and operate the connections between engin and our customers’ recruiting systems.

You will own integrations across the full recruiting lifecycle. At the top of the funnel, you will synchronize jobs for distribution and ingest applications, candidate profiles, resumes, and related data so Suzy, our AI agent, can analyze and interview candidates. Further down the funnel, you will capture events such as submissions, interviews, offers, placements, starts, and hires so customers can measure performance, attribution, and recruiting outcomes.

This role goes beyond traditional ATS integrations. ATS platforms vary widely in their APIs, data models, reporting capabilities, and integration maturity. When a standard integration through platforms such as Merge or Kombo is insufficient, you will determine the most reliable alternative. That may involve working directly with an ATS API, using webhooks or exports, processing XML feeds, or engineering agentic integration workflows when no clear API path is available.

You will own these integration problems from investigation through production operation.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, maintain, and improve integrations between engin and customer ATS platforms.
  • Synchronize jobs and their associated requirements, locations, compensation details, and status changes for distribution through engin.
  • Ingest applications, candidate profiles, resumes, screening responses, and related records needed by Suzy to analyze and interview candidates.
  • Reliably return relevant results and updates from engin and Suzy to customer systems.
  • Capture downstream recruiting events such as submissions, interviews, offers, placements, starts, and hires.
  • Translate different ATS data models and customer workflows into a consistent model spanning jobs, candidates, applications, activities, and outcomes.
  • Build the data foundation for recruitment marketing attribution, funnel analysis, conversion measurement, and operational KPIs.
  • Work with unified integration platforms such as Merge and Kombo while recognizing when their abstractions do not expose the required functionality or data.
  • Integrate directly with ATS APIs, webhooks, reporting systems, scheduled exports, and other available interfaces.
  • Design secure, maintainable agentic solutions for systems where conventional API-based integration is unavailable or incomplete.
  • Build workflows to ingest, validate, transform, and produce XML data feeds.
  • Operate high-volume synchronization workflows, including bulk imports, incremental updates, backfills, retries, and reconciliation.
  • Handle pagination, rate limits, long-running jobs, partial failures, duplicate records, and inconsistent source data.
  • Monitor integration health and investigate discrepancies between customer systems and engin.
  • Create internal tooling that helps engineering and customer-facing teams diagnose integration issues.
  • Partner with product, customer success, and engineering to define customer-specific integration requirements.
  • Design integrations that protect sensitive candidate and customer data through secure authentication, least-privilege access, appropriate logging, and responsible data retention.
  • Lead technical discovery and troubleshooting conversations with customer stakeholders during onboarding and ongoing operation, explaining complex integration issues clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Work agent-first using tools such as Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code for implementation, investigation, testing, and documentation.
  • Document integration architecture, customer configurations, data mappings, operational procedures, and known system limitations.

Why This Role Matters

ATS integrations are the foundation of engin’s product experience. Jobs must flow accurately into engin for distribution, and applications and candidate data must be available to Suzy so she can analyze, screen, and interview candidates effectively. The resulting activity and outcomes must then flow back into customer systems.

Customers also need visibility into what happens throughout the recruiting lifecycle—from job distribution and candidate acquisition through submissions, interviews, placements, and hires. Accurate, timely data enables automation, improves the candidate experience, and allows customers to understand the return on their recruiting efforts.

You will build the infrastructure that connects this entire lifecycle, even when the underlying ATS makes it difficult.

Required Skills

  • Professional experience building ATS, HR technology, or recruiting-system integrations.
  • Familiarity with one or more ATS platforms such as Bullhorn, Avionté, JobDiva, Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, iCIMS, or SmartRecruiters.
  • Experience integrating third-party systems through REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, scheduled jobs, file transfers, or data exports.
  • Strong Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL skills.
  • Experience modeling and synchronizing interconnected records such as jobs, candidates, applications, submissions, and placements.
  • Experience designing data synchronization systems where correctness, idempotency, throughput, and recovery from partial failures matter.
  • Experience processing large volumes of operational data through batching, pagination, incremental synchronization, and backfills.
  • Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems, understand inconsistent data models, and turn ambiguous requirements into reliable solutions.
  • Strong debugging skills across authentication, data mapping, API behavior, synchronization state, and data quality.
  • A practical approach to engineering reliable systems without unnecessary complexity.
  • Comfort owning customer integration problems from initial discovery through deployment and ongoing support.
  • Experience incorporating coding agents into day-to-day software engineering work.
  • Experience leading technical conversations with both technical and nontechnical customer stakeholders, translating customer problems and workflows into clear integration requirements and practical solutions.
  • Experience handling sensitive customer and candidate data using appropriate security, privacy, access-control, and data-retention practices.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with staffing-focused platforms such as Bullhorn, Avionté, or JobDiva and their recruiting workflows.
  • Familiarity with job distribution, candidate intake, submissions, placements, assignments, starts, credentialing, and pay-and-bill data.
  • Experience integrating recruiting systems with AI screening, matching, interviewing, or candidate engagement products.
  • Experience defining normalized recruiting models across systems with significantly different schemas and workflow stages.
  • Experience with XML, feed generation, and XML-based recruiting or job distribution standards.
  • Familiarity with recruitment marketing attribution, funnel analytics, or operational KPI reporting.
  • Experience with data reconciliation, historical backfills, migration projects, or customer-specific data repair.
  • Experience building integrations through reporting interfaces, scheduled exports, SFTP, or other fallback mechanisms when APIs are incomplete.
  • Experience engineering and monitoring agentic workflows that interact reliably with systems lacking conventional integration interfaces.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses, analytics pipelines, or business intelligence systems.
  • Experience working in a small startup environment where engineers own ambiguous technical and customer problems end to end.
