Job description
Ready to help shape the powertrain technology behind next-generation heavy equipment?
A leading heavy equipment manufacturer is seeking an experienced Powertrain Systems Engineer to design, develop, and integrate powertrain systems for large-scale mining loaders. This is an opportunity to work on complex off-highway machinery, tackle challenging engineering and packaging requirements, and contribute to the development of high-performance equipment, including evolving hybrid powertrain technologies.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to bring powertrain solutions from design and integration through prototype testing and validation.
About the Role
The Powertrain Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and packaging engine and powertrain components, coordinating system interfaces, and resolving integration challenges. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with diesel engine and powertrain integration for vehicles or heavy equipment, along with an understanding of hybrid powertrain systems.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Engineering
-
Design and package engine components, mounts, intake and exhaust systems, and fuel-system components.
-
Coordinate powertrain interfaces and resolve system packaging conflicts.
-
Support integration of engine and powertrain components to meet equipment performance and design requirements.
Testing, Validation & Collaboration
-
Support prototype builds, testing, and supplier integration activities.
-
Participate in FMEA and design improvement initiatives.
-
Support adaptation and integration of hybrid powertrain models and technologies.
Quality, Safety & Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and other stakeholders to resolve design issues and support product launches and continuous improvement.
-
Maintain clear engineering documentation and follow applicable product safety, quality, and company standards.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
-
4+ years of experience in diesel engine or powertrain integration for vehicles or heavy equipment.
-
Working knowledge of engine installation, intake and exhaust systems, fuel systems, component packaging, FMEA, and hybrid powertrain interfaces.
-
Ability to manage priorities, communicate technical findings, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with off-highway construction or mining equipment.
-
Exposure to hybrid or electric equipment platforms.
-
Experience working with international engineering or supplier teams.
-
Experience with prototype validation, root-cause analysis, and structured design reviews.
Skills & Competencies
