GPI is seeking Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), and Structural Building Systems Engineering Interns for our Albany, NY office. Interns will participate in engineering analysis, design development, drafting, field investigations, report preparation, contractor submittal reviews, and site visits. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of building systems projects, including commercial, institutional, industrial, and public sector facilities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and experience or coursework in building systems engineering. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other building information modeling (BIM) software is preferred.
Our individualized internship program provides opportunities to gain exposure to multiple disciplines within building engineering, including mechanical HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing and fire protection design, and structural engineering. Each intern is paired with mentors.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural engineering analysis and design.
- Support the preparation of engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports.
- Develop drawings and models using AutoCAD, Revit, and other BIM/CADD software.
- Assist with load calculations, equipment selection, and system layouts.
- Participate in field investigations, site assessments, and construction observations.
- Review drawings under the supervision of senior engineering staff.
- Support project teams in developing design deliverables for review by licensed engineers.
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with project schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on a variety of building design projects.
- Assist with report writing, documentation, and project coordination activities.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute in a collaborative team environment.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM software, or similar design tools is preferred.
- Ability to work in an office environment and participate in field visits to gain practical engineering experience.
- Interest in building systems design and structural engineering practices.
Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
- Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
- Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
- Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
- Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
