Mechanical Engineering Intern

Launch Your Engineering Career with Hands-On Experience

Are you a Mechanical Engineering student ready to apply classroom theory to real-world projects? Join Thompson & Litton for a hands-on internship supporting our Building Services team. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers to learn how mechanical systems are designed, documented, and implemented across commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.

The Role: What You'll Do

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will gain exposure to diverse projects and support our team through:
  • Design & Drafting: Assist with the development of mechanical plans and construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Systems Layout: Support heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing system layouts and equipment selection.
  • Technical Support: Assist engineers with calculations, specifications, technical reports, and project deliverables.
  • Field Investigation: Participate in site visits to observe how mechanical systems are installed and operated in active facilities.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside licensed Professional Engineers and team members across engineering, architecture, and planning.

What You'll Bring
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering (sophomore level or higher preferred).
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mindset: A collaborative attitude, willingness to ask questions, and a strong interest in consulting engineering.
  • Technical Basics: Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Preferred Qualifications (The Nice-to-Haves)
  • Coursework or prior project experience related to HVAC, plumbing, or building systems.
  • Prior exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or related design software.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
