Are you an Electrical Engineering student ready to apply classroom theory to real-world projects? Join Thompson & Litton for a hands-on internship supporting our electrical and building services engineering team. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers to learn how electrical, lighting, and power systems are designed, documented, and integrated into commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities.

Our internship program focuses heavily on mentorship and professional development, providing a clear pathway for students who want to build a long-term career and grow with Thompson & Litton.

The Role: What You'll Do

As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will gain exposure to diverse projects and support our team through:
  • System Design & Layout: Assist with the development of power distribution, lighting, and communication system layouts.
  • Drafting & Documentation: Help prepare electrical plans, schedules, and construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Technical Support: Assist engineers with electrical calculations (such as voltage drop and lighting loads), equipment selections, and technical specifications.
  • Field Investigation: Participate in site visits and facility assessments to observe existing electrical installations and see how designs come to life in the field.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside licensed Professional Engineers and team members across electrical, mechanical, architectural, and planning disciplines.

What You'll Bring
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering (sophomore level or higher preferred).
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Mindset: A collaborative attitude, a strong desire to learn, and an interest in growing long-term within consulting engineering.
  • Technical Basics: Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and a foundational understanding of electrical circuit theory and power principles.

Preferred Qualifications (The Nice-to-Haves)
  • Coursework or project experience related to power systems, electrical machines, lighting design, or building electrical systems.
  • Prior exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, or electrical design/calculation software.
  • Previous internship, co-op, or multidisciplinary project experience.
