JOB SUMMARY

The Invasive Cardiovascular Technology Specialist (CVT) assists in cardiovascular procedures in the Scrub and Monitoring capacity. The CVT assists teams in providing direct patient care within the scope of their practice. Demonstrates competency in coronary intervention, peripheral intervention, electrophysiology studies, and Structural Heart procedures. Additionally, this position participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

• Utilizes sterile process to assist physician during procedures, which includes all of the following: maintain sterile field, anticipate needs, and understand use and proper prep of invasive devices.

• Practices proper radiation safety for patients, self and others.

• Assist in patient care within scope of practice. Reports observed changes in patient status for cardiologists and RN.

• Practices safe medication administration during physician assisted procedures.

• Reports unresolved need in reference to monitoring documentation prior to discharge from the procedure room.

• Participate in pre verification checklist and time outs.

• Timely and accurate event documentation which reflects hospital/unit standards and includes procedure specifics (i.e. proc. Type, supply use, chronological entry).

• Always knows the general condition of imaging and interventional equipment. Knows how to operate all equipment required while performing procedures. Documents failures in a timely fashion.

• Completes patient care assignments within the designated shift.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support quality patient outcomes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of Associates Degree in Cardiovascular Technology

OR

Graduate of formal radiological program; Registered as ARRT(CI) preferred.

OR

Highschool Diploma and graduate of a non-accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology that includes a minimum of one year of specialty training and at least 800 clinical hours in the specialty for which the examination is being requested.

• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) required upon hire, OR completion within one year of hire.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 1 year of hire.

• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
