Job description
Job Title: Superintendent (Traveling)
Job Location: Traveling (Bulk of projects in Mountain Region and West Coast
Salary: $125k-$145k
Requirements: 5+ Years of ground up commercial experience as a Superintendent preferably on bank, office and/or retail projects.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee commercial construction projects across multiple geographic regions. The Traveling Superintendent will ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, on budget, and to client specifications. This role requires strong construction and financial acumen, excellent leadership, and frequent travel to job sites including banks, retail centers, and office buildings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site leadership and supervision for commercial construction projects (bank, retail, office, and other commercial facilities) from mobilization through closeout.
- Travel regularly to assigned job sites to monitor progress, enforce quality standards, and coordinate trades and subcontractors; anticipate travel up to 60-75% depending on project load.
- Manage project schedules and deliverables; identify and mitigate delays, update schedules, and coordinate with clients and project teams to maintain milestones.
- Maintain and control project financials including forecasting, cost tracking, change order review, and invoice approvals; work with project managers and accounting to meet budget targets.
- Conduct daily site inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards; enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Coordinate permitting, inspections, and regulatory documentation; interface with local authorities and third-party inspectors as needed.
- Lead weekly site meetings, prepare and distribute progress reports, RFIs, submittal logs, and meeting minutes to stakeholders.
- Oversee quality control, perform punch-list management and closeout tasks, and ensure complete turnover documentation and training for clients.
- Develop and maintain positive client relationships, address client concerns promptly, and represent the company professionally on-site.
- Mentor and direct on-site foremen and superintendent assistants, promoting best practices, productivity, and a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of commercial construction experience with a minimum of 3 years as a Superintendent or similar lead field role.
- Proven experience managing bank, retail, and office construction projects, including tenant finishes and shell/core work.
- Strong financial skills: budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and experience managing project-level financials and change orders.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently (up to 60-75%); valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Working knowledge of construction scheduling and project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, PlanGrid) and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Current OSHA 10 (required) or OSHA 30 (preferred) certification and strong commitment to jobsite safety.
- Outstanding communication, leadership, problem-solving, and negotiation skills with the ability to collaborate with owners, architects, subcontractors, and trades.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
