Traveling Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee construction projects across industrial, retail, and commercial sectors. The Traveling Superintendent will travel between active sites, manage on-site crews and subcontractors, ensure quality and safety compliance, maintain schedules and budgets, and act as the primary on-site representative for clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to multiple project sites to provide on-site supervision and leadership for industrial, retail, and commercial construction projects.
- Manage day-to-day field operations including crew supervision, subcontractor coordination, quality control, and workmanship inspections.
- Enforce safety standards and site housekeeping; ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations (OSHA standards preferred).
- Maintain project schedules, identify and mitigate delays, and coordinate with project managers to adjust sequencing and resources.
- Use project management tools to document daily reports, track progress, manage RFIs, submittals, and change orders; Procore experience is a plus.
- Communicate proactively with clients, general contractors, and stakeholders, representing the company on site and maintaining positive client relationships (experience with Publix, big box retailers, or Shell is advantageous).
- Monitor project budgets and material usage, report cost variances, and support efforts to control expenses and minimize rework.
- Coordinate deliveries, equipment, and site logistics to support continuous workflow and efficient use of resources.
- Train and mentor field personnel, promote best practices, and lead toolbox talks and safety meetings as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of superintendent or senior field supervision experience in industrial, retail, or commercial construction, with proven traveling superintendent experience.
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, blueprint reading, and field problem-solving.
- Demonstrated track record managing multiple sites, subcontractors, schedules, and budgets simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills; ability to represent the company professionally on client sites.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to travel frequently and stay overnight as project needs require.
- Familiarity with construction management software (Procore or similar) and digital reporting tools preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred; strong commitment to site safety and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working with large retail clients (Publix, big box stores) or energy-related projects (Shell) is a plus.
- Degree or technical diploma in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent field experience.
