Tool & Die Technician / Injection Molder

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Tool & Die Technician / Injection Molder to set up, operate, maintain and troubleshoot injection molding equipment and tooling. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure efficient, safe and high-quality production by optimizing mold performance, performing repairs and preventive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with injection molding and mold maintenance, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work closely with production and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, start up and operate injection molding presses to produce parts to quality and production targets
  • Perform routine and emergency mold maintenance, cleaning, and repair to minimize downtime
  • Troubleshoot molding issues such as short shots, flash, warpage, and dimensional defects and implement corrective actions
  • Change and align molds, install mold components and ensure proper clamp and cooling connections
  • Adjust machine parameters (temperature, pressure, cycle time) and document settings for repeatability
  • Inspect molded parts for quality, perform first-piece and in-process inspections, and maintain production records
  • Collaborate with engineering on mold modifications, tooling improvements and part design for manufacturability
  • Maintain tooling inventory, log repairs and spare parts usage, and recommend tooling replacements or upgrades
  • Support preventive maintenance programs for molds and molding presses to extend tool life and ensure consistent output
  • Adhere to safety procedures, good housekeeping and company quality standards

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in injection molding operations and mold technician duties (setups, troubleshooting, maintenance)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience adjusting and repairing molds and molding machines
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mold drawings and basic electrical/hydraulic schematics
  • Experience with mold changeover procedures and use of common shop tools and measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers)
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to document and communicate process changes
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or trade school in tool & die, mold making or related field preferred
  • Nice to have: experience in mold building, machining (CNC/lathe/mill), mold tooling design and repair, and welding/fabrication
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, lift heavy components, and stand for extended periods as required by production demands
