We are looking for a Tax Senior to join our mid-sized CPA firm in Norwalk, CT. We are adding to a team that deliberately rejects the burnout culture of big public accounting - offering direct partner access, genuine mentorship, and a clearly lit path to Tax Manager.
What You'll Do
- Tax Preparation & Review: Prepare and review complex federal and state returns for high-net-worth individuals (Form 1040), corporations (1120/1120S), partnerships (1065), trusts, and estates.
- Client Engagement: Serve as a primary client contact: field day-to-day questions, gather tax data, and translate complex tax issues into plain language.
- Research & Planning: Conduct technical tax research on multi-step transactions and contribute to proactive planning strategies across a diverse industry client base.
- Team Leadership: Mentor, train, and review work product of junior associates and interns, raising team quality and confidence.
- Compliance Management: Own deadline management and compliance across all engagements, especially during peak busy season.
- Workflow Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline return preparation workflows and flag efficiency gaps to leadership.
What You Need
- Experience: 3+ years of progressive tax experience inside a public accounting firm.
- Diverse Skillset: Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing multiple return types (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S) across different industries.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with at least one major tax platform: UltraTax, ProSystem fx, CCH Axcess, or equivalent; plus tax research tools such as Checkpoint.
- Location Presence: Ability to work on-site at the Norwalk, CT office (hybrid schedule available - see below).
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for direct client relationship management.
Nice to Have
- Credentials: Active CPA license or actively sitting for the CPA exam (firm covers exam fees and study support).
- Education: Master's degree in Taxation (MST) or related advanced accounting degree.
- Process Improvement: Track record of process-improvement initiatives within a tax or accounting department.
Pay & Benefits
- Base Salary: $100,000-$120,000 depending on experience and CPA credential status.
- Bonus: Performance-based bonus program targeting an additional 5% to 15% of base salary annually.
