Job description

Tax Manager
We are a well-established, growing CPA firm in Fairfield, NJ looking for an experienced Tax Manager to own complex client engagements from review through advisory - with a clear path to senior leadership as the firm expands.
What you'll do
  • Manage a portfolio of privately-held business and high-net-worth individual clients as their primary tax advisor and relationship owner
  • Review and prepare complex federal and state returns for individuals, C-corps, S-corps, partnerships, and trusts
  • Conduct tax research and deliver proactive planning strategies that create measurable value for clients
  • Supervise, coach, and review the work of staff accountants and senior accountants, raising overall team output quality
  • Coordinate workflow, deadlines, and staffing assignments during peak season to keep engagements on track
  • Identify and communicate tax savings opportunities and risk areas to clients in plain language
  • Contribute to firm growth by supporting client retention and, over time, business development
What you need
  • Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation (strictly required - no exceptions)
  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with demonstrated review-level responsibility
  • Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing multi-entity and multi-state returns
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax law
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Fairfield, NJ (northern New Jersey / greater NYC metro)
Nice to have
  • Experience with high-net-worth individual and trust taxation
  • Familiarity with common professional tax software (UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar) and advanced Excel
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Prior experience mentoring junior staff in a structured review environment

  • Salary: $145,000 to $165,000 / year depending on experience
