Job description

Tax Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and manage tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the organization. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns, develop tax strategies to optimize the companys tax position, ensure compliance with changing regulations, and mentor junior staff. The role requires strong technical tax knowledge, excellent project management skills, and the ability to communicate tax risks and opportunities to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns for the company and any consolidated entities.
  • Lead tax compliance processes, including income tax provision preparation (ASC 740), quarterly estimates, and extension filings.
  • Develop and execute tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and support business initiatives and transactions.
  • Oversee tax research on complex technical issues, interpret new legislation, and implement process changes to maintain compliance.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train tax staff and external consultants; review workpapers and tax computations for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits and examinations; manage requests from tax authorities and respond to notices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, treasury, and operations) to evaluate tax implications of business decisions.
  • Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations for senior management and the Board on tax positions, risks, and planning opportunities.
  • Drive process improvements and automation in tax workflows to increase efficiency and reduce risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master of Taxation or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or corporate tax, with exposure to tax provision (ASC 740) and tax compliance.
  • Proven experience in tax preparation, review, and managing tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax law and regulations, and experience applying tax research to business issues.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills; ability to explain complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with tax software and ERP systems; experience implementing tax technology and automation is a plus.
  • High attention to detail, analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to identifying tax planning opportunities and mitigating risk.
