Tax Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of clients, including high net worth individuals (HNWI). The Tax Manager will manage engagement delivery, supervise and mentor staff, optimize workflows, and ensure high standards of technical accuracy and client service. This role requires strong public accounting experience, excellent communication skills, and hands on experience with tax software and practice management tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver tax compliance and planning engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts, with a focus on HNWI clientele.
  • Review and prepare complex federal and state income tax returns and schedules, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current tax laws.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize client liabilities and support client financial objectives.
  • Supervise, mentor, and review the work of senior associates and staff; provide feedback, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate engagement workflow and deadlines using practice management tools (e.g., Karbon); delegate tasks and monitor progress to meet client and firm expectations.
  • Oversee use of tax preparation and automation tools (e.g., Lacerte, SurePrep) to improve efficiency and maintain quality control.
  • Perform tax research on technical issues and prepare written memos and recommendations for partners and clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships; serve as primary client contact on assigned engagements and proactively communicate tax planning opportunities and status updates.
  • Collaborate with partners and other practice areas to pursue business development opportunities and support firm growth.
  • Ensure firm policies, internal controls, and documentation standards are followed; assist with quality reviews and compliance matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree and/or advanced tax coursework is a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred or in progress.
  • Minimum of 58 years of public accounting experience with progressive responsibility, including prior experience as a Tax Manager or senior tax role.
  • Demonstrated experience serving HNWI clients and handling complex individual, trust, estate, partnership, and corporate tax matters.
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software such as Lacerte and automation tools like SurePrep.
  • Experience with practice management and collaboration platforms, preferably Karbon (or similar tools).
  • Strong technical knowledge of tax law, regulations, and research tools; ability to synthesize technical issues into practical client advice.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring staff and leading engagements.
  • Outstanding client service, communication, and relationship building abilities.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast paced environment.
