Tax Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and review for a diverse client base. The Tax Manager will ensure accurate, timely tax filings, provide strategic tax advice, oversee a team of tax professionals, and maintain high standards of technical quality and client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee preparation, review, and filing of federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and corporations (including 1040, 1065, 1120S).
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of tax staff; assign work, set priorities, and perform quality reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Lead tax planning engagements and provide proactive tax advice to clients on business transactions, tax-efficient structuring, and tax credits/deductions.
- Conduct technical tax research and interpret federal, state, and local tax laws to ensure proper application and minimize client exposure.
- Coordinate and respond to tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities; prepare supporting documentation and represent clients as needed.
- Implement and maintain tax processes, controls, and documentation standards to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Manage client relationships, communicate tax results and recommendations clearly, and ensure excellent service delivery and timely responses to client inquiries.
- Collaborate with other service lines (e.g., advisory, accounting) to deliver integrated solutions and identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Stay current on tax legislation, regulatory changes, and industry trends and communicate impacts to staff and clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Tax or Accounting preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive tax experience with demonstrated experience in tax compliance and planning; prior experience in a tax manager or senior-level role preferred.
- Deep technical knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws and experience preparing or reviewing 1040, 1065, and 1120S returns.
- Proven experience performing technical reviews and quality control of tax workpapers and returns.
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is highly preferred (nice to have).
- Strong leadership and people-management skills with experience coaching and developing staff.
- Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency with tax software, Excel, and research tools; experience with major tax preparation platforms preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to represent clients before tax authorities and comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
