Tax Manager

Tax Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for a diverse portfolio of individual, partnership, and corporate clients. The Tax Manager will manage tax engagements from planning through filing, review and quality control of tax returns, mentor and review the work of staff, and serve as a client-facing advisor to identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations.
  • Plan and execute tax strategies to minimize client tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, including engagement planning, budgeting, staffing, and delivery of high-quality work products.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior tax staff; perform reviews of workpapers and tax return drafts; provide constructive feedback and training.
  • Serve as primary client contact for technical tax issues, respond to client inquiries, and build strong client relationships through clear communication and proactive advice.
  • Coordinate and support tax audits, notices, and other interactions with tax authorities; prepare documentation and represent clients as needed.
  • Stay current on tax law changes, accounting standards, and industry trends; implement process improvements and best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and present tax research, memos, and client presentations detailing tax positions, planning opportunities, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Tax Manager or in a similar senior tax role, with a strong track record managing tax engagements and teams.
  • Deep technical knowledge of individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns, including federal and multi-state compliance issues.
  • Hands-on experience with tax preparation software and tax research tools; proficiency with Excel and common accounting software.
  • Excellent supervisory and mentoring skills with experience reviewing staff work and managing workflow.
  • Strong communication and client-service skills; ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-technical clients and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; advanced degree or masters in taxation is a plus.
  • Professional certification preferred: CPA or EA strongly preferred (nice to have).
  • Experience with tax planning, tax projections, and state and local tax matters preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure during peak tax season and manage competing priorities.
