Tax Manager
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning and advisory services for our organization and clients. The Tax Manager will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely federal, state and local tax filings, developing tax strategies to optimize liability, managing tax provision processes, and supervising a team of tax professionals. This role requires a strong technical background in tax, excellent client communication skills, and the ability to stay current with evolving tax laws and regulations. CPA and deep tax expertise are required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee preparation, review and filing of federal, state and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and individuals as applicable to client engagements or company entities.
- Develop tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and advise leadership or clients on implications of business transactions and restructuring.
- Manage and execute tax provision calculations and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with ASC 740 (or relevant standards).
- Supervise, coach and mentor tax staff; assign and review work, facilitate professional development, and manage resource allocation across engagements.
- Conduct technical tax research on complex federal, state and international tax issues, document conclusions and implement recommended approaches.
- Coordinate and support tax audits and examinations, including preparing responses, negotiating positions with tax authorities, and managing controversy matters.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, payroll, etc.) to ensure tax impacts of business decisions are assessed and documented.
Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities and best practices to increase efficiency and reduce risk in tax compliance and reporting.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - required.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive tax experience; prior experience in tax roles within public accounting or corporate tax departments preferred.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in federal, state and local taxation and tax provisions (ASC 740).
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and conducting tax research.
- Proven supervisory experience with the ability to lead and develop tax professionals and manage multiple engagements simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting tax positions to senior management or clients.
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, Thomson Reuters, or similar), ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Detail-oriented, analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving and project management abilities.
- Nice to have: significant public accounting experience, strong accounting background, and prior senior-level tax leadership roles.
