Superintendent - Mission Critical / Data Center
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead on-site field operations for mission critical and data center projects. The Superintendent will ensure safe, on-schedule delivery of high-availability systems, coordinate mechanical and electrical trades, drive quality and commissioning efforts, and maintain continuous client communication to meet stringent uptime, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day field operations for mission critical and data center construction and retrofit projects, ensuring work meets design, quality, safety and uptime requirements.
- Coordinate, supervise and mentor craft and subcontractor teams (electrical, mechanical, controls, commissioning) to ensure correct installation and sequencing of mission-critical systems (UPS, generators, switchgear, STS, CRAC/CRAH, BMS).
- Manage project schedule on-site, identify and resolve sequencing conflicts, and drive acceleration or recovery plans when required to meet milestones.
- Serve as on-site point of contact for clients, vendors and commissioning agents; provide regular status updates and escalate critical issues promptly.
- Oversee quality control and commissioning activities, review test plans, witness functional testing, and verify completion of punch lists related to mission-critical systems.
- Enforce safety programs and site policies, lead toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards and site-specific safety requirements.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, submittals and RFIs; provide field input to change order documentation and scope clarifications.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, site documentation, and handover packages to support turnover and warranty processes.
- Coordinate material deliveries, site laydown, and equipment staging to minimize risk to operations and maintain site cleanliness and access.
- Collaborate with project management and design teams to identify constructability improvements and cost-saving opportunities while protecting system reliability.
Qualifications
- Required: Proven experience as a Superintendent on mission critical / data center projects with direct responsibility for on-site supervision and delivery.
- Required: Strong working knowledge of data center systems and infrastructure (UPS, generators, switchgear, power distribution, cooling systems, fire detection/suppression, BMS) and the operational demands of mission-critical facilities.
- Required: Demonstrated ability to manage subcontractors, coordinate multi-trade installation, and lead commissioning activities.
- Required: Excellent reading and interpretation skills for construction drawings, single-line electrical diagrams, and manufacturer installation instructions.
- Required: Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under schedule pressure to protect uptime commitments.
- Preferred (nice-to-have): Construction experience on commercial/industrial projects to support broader site coordination and installation knowledge.
- Preferred (nice-to-have): OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Preferred: Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines such as NFPA, TIA-942, and Uptime Institute recommendations.
- Education/other: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, vocational certification, or related training in electrical/mechanical/construction fields is a plus. Valid drivers license and ability to pass site safety and background checks.
