Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site construction activities for life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and healthcare projects, including complex cleanroom environments. The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field leadership, ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, and to strict quality and regulatory standards (GMP, FDA, ISO). This role requires strong technical knowledge of cleanroom construction, MEP systems, and validation requirements, excellent subcontractor and client coordination skills, and a commitment to delivering high-performance, compliant facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily on-site leadership and supervision of craft labor, subcontractors, and specialty vendors to ensure work is performed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents.
• Plan, sequence, and monitor construction activities for life science, biotech, pharmaceutical, and healthcare projects, with specific attention to cleanroom fit-out, containment systems, and critical path tasks.
• Manage quality control and assurance activities on-site: perform inspections, enforce workmanship standards, maintain logs, and ensure compliance with GMP, ISO standards, and project-specific validation protocols.
• Coordinate closely with project management, engineers, commissioning/validation teams, and client representatives to resolve technical issues, review RFIs, and implement design clarifications quickly and efficiently.
• Oversee installation and integration of complex MEP systems (HVAC, process piping, clean utility systems, compressed air, chilled water), ensuring sequencing supports commissioning and validation requirements.
• Enforce safety programs and site-specific procedures, conduct toolbox talks, ensure PPE, maintain OSHA and project safety compliance, and investigate incidents or near-misses.
• Manage scheduling and field-level cost control: report progress, identify schedule risks, provide recovery plans, and review subcontractor performance and change-order execution.
• Maintain thorough field documentation including daily reports, photos, submittal/inspection logs, non-conformance reports, and punch lists to support turnover and validation documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
• Lead commissioning and turnover activities: support startup, functional testing, and handover to validation teams; ensure punch lists are closed and as-built documentation is complete.
• Foster positive client relationships on site: communicate progress, anticipate client needs, and act as the day-to-day on-site representative for the contractor during construction activities.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of commercial construction experience with at least 35 years supervising life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare projects; cleanroom construction experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of GMP, FDA expectations, ISO cleanroom standards (e.g., ISO 14644), and healthcare construction codes (NFPA, IBC, ASHRAE standards).
• Strong technical understanding of MEP systems relevant to labs and cleanrooms (HVAC, HEPA filtration, process piping, utilities) and experience coordinating with commissioning/validation teams.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple subcontractors, prioritize work under schedule pressure, and maintain high quality standards.
• Experience with project documentation: RFIs, submittals, daily reports, quality logs, change orders, and punch lists; familiarity with IQ/OQ/PQ documentation a plus.
• Valid OSHA 30 certification (or ability to obtain), strong safety background, and commitment to enforcing site safety protocols.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), client-facing experience, and the ability to collaborate with diverse project stakeholders.
• Comfortable using construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid or similar), scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera) and electronic document control systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, construction management certificate, or related college degree preferred. Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
