Construction Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead on-site operations for commercial and/or large residential projects. The Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the specified quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, construction technical knowledge, and a commitment to enforcing safety practices including OSHA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct daily on-site construction activities, supervising craftworkers, foremen, and subcontractors to meet project milestones and quality standards.
- Implement and enforce site safety programs and OSHA guidelines (including maintaining OSHA 30 compliance expectations), conduct regular safety meetings, and ensure incident reporting and mitigation.
- Create, maintain, and communicate detailed schedules; coordinate subcontractor sequencing, deliveries, inspections, and temporary utilities to avoid delays.
- Interpret contract documents, drawings, and specifications; oversee layout, quality control, and code compliance for all work performed.
- Monitor project budgets and track progress against cost estimates; identify potential cost variances and propose corrective actions.
- Coordinate inspections and approvals with building officials, engineers, and clients; prepare and maintain daily reports, logs, RFIs, change orders, and as-built documentation.
- Mentor and coach on-site personnel, promote a collaborative team environment, and resolve conflicts to maintain productivity.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process improvements, efficiency gains, and risk reduction on site.
Qualifications
- Minimum 510 years experience as a Superintendent or similar on commercial or large residential construction projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, blueprint reading, and quality control best practices.
- OSHA 30 certification required or strong preference; proven experience enforcing OSHA standards on job sites.
- Proven track record managing multiple subcontractors, scheduling, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, and trades.
- Proficient with construction management software and scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera, Microsoft Project) and basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets).
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; ability to pass pre-employment background and drug screening as required.
- Physical ability to walk job sites, climb ladders/scaffolds, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Construction-related degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience preferred; certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or similar are a plus.
