Job description
Structural Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Superintendent to lead on-site structural construction activities for high-rise, mid-rise, and multi-family projects. The Structural Superintendent will oversee daily field operations, ensure quality and safety of structural work (concrete, steel, and other structural systems), coordinate subcontractors and trades, and drive schedule and budget objectives while maintaining compliance with design documents, codes, and owner expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise all on-site structural construction activities, including concrete formwork, rebar placement, concrete pours, post-tensioning, steel erection, and related trades.
- Manage daily field workforce and subcontractors; assign tasks, monitor performance, and enforce quality standards and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with project management, engineers, general contractors, and trade foremen to ensure structural work aligns with contract documents, engineering details, and inspection requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and update short-term and look-ahead schedules to meet project milestones; identify and mitigate scheduling impacts.
- Oversee materials delivery, storage, handling, and inventory for structural elements; verify conformity with specifications and coordinate timely procurement.
- Conduct regular quality control inspections and document non-conformances; work with engineering and QA/QC teams to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, OSHA standards, and site-specific safety plans; lead toolbox talks and site safety meetings.
- Facilitate and host inspections and tests by third-party inspectors, authorities having jurisdiction, and design professionals; prepare and maintain inspection records and reports.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, manpower reports, RFIs, change order documentation, and as-built records; provide regular progress reports to project leadership.
- Troubleshoot and resolve on-site technical and logistical issues; make field decisions consistent with project goals and escalate when necessary.
- Mentor and develop field staff, promote a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to company procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years of hands-on construction experience with at least 3-5 years as a Superintendent or Structural Superintendent on high-rise, mid-rise, or multi-family projects.
- Demonstrated experience with structural systems including cast-in-place concrete, post-tensioned slabs, structural steel erection, and related temporary works/formwork.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications; ability to read and interpret engineered details.
- Proven track record managing subcontractors, coordinating multiple trades, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, permitting processes, and inspection requirements.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (or equivalent) required; additional safety or first aid certifications a plus.
- Proficiency with construction management / scheduling software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with owners, engineers, inspectors, and field personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel between project sites as required.
