Structural Engineer - Commercial Design & Construction

Position Overview
We are seeking a Structural Engineer with CA PE licensure and 3+ years of related design for commercial, state, federal construction building projects to join our team and contribute to the analysis and design of concrete and steel building systems.  This role emphasizes practical structural engineering skills in concrete and steel, with opportunities to work on state building projects in Los Angeles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for concrete and steel building systems, including beams, columns, walls, slabs and foundations.
  • Prepare clear, accurate structural calculations, technical reports and design documentation for permitting and construction.
  • Develop and review construction drawings and details in coordination with architects and other consultants.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, CBC/CRC) and local authority requirements; prepare submittals for permitting and agency review.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors and clients to resolve technical issues during design and construction phases.
  • Conduct construction phase support including submittal reviews, RFIs, site visits, and observation as required.
  • Manage project tasks and schedules, track deliverables, and communicate progress to project managers and clients.
  • Mentor junior engineers and engineers-in-training; foster a collaborative and professional team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Masters degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional structural engineering experience (Associate level), with demonstrated hands-on design of concrete and steel systems.
  • Proven experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, STAAD) and drafting/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Strong knowledge of concrete and steel design codes and standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, IBC).
  • Excellent technical writing, verbal communication and coordination skills; ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and interact with clients and construction teams.
  • Experience preparing construction documents, specifications and calculation packages for permitting.
  • Ability to perform site visits and resolve field-related design issues.
  • Required skills: Structural Engineer, Concrete, Steel.
  • Nice-to-have: Licensed PE / Professional Engineer / Registered Engineer; experience with structural design for California state buildings (DSA/CA approvals); educational building design experience; timber design and framing expertise; familiarity with CA building codes and DSA procedures.
