Sr. HVAC Engineer (PE Required)

Senior HVAC Engineer (PE License Required)

Location: Fountain Valley, CA
Compensation: $150,000 to $190,000 Base Salary (Experience Dependent) 

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, and design-build construction services throughout Southern California. The company is recognized for delivering high-quality mechanical solutions across commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, municipal, and mission-critical facilities.

Due to continued growth, the organization is seeking a Senior HVAC Engineer to provide technical leadership for complex mechanical projects. This individual will serve as a key resource throughout design, preconstruction, and project execution while working closely with estimators, project managers, architects, engineers, and field teams.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive HVAC design experience, strong leadership skills, and an active Professional Engineer license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations and energy analysis.
  • Develop HVAC system layouts, equipment selections, and technical specifications.
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, and design documents.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, BIM teams, architects, and field personnel.
  • Support design-build projects from conceptual design through construction completion.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes and industry standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Participate in value engineering initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce project costs.
  • Attend client meetings, coordination meetings, and project site visits.
  • Assist with commissioning activities, startup support, and system performance evaluations.
  • Troubleshoot engineering challenges and provide technical solutions throughout project execution.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when required.

Qualifications

  • Active Professional Engineer License required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum three years of HVAC engineering and design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of air distribution systems, hydronic systems, chilled water systems, and mechanical equipment selection.
  • Experience performing load calculations and system sizing.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software.
  • Strong understanding of California building codes and energy regulations.
  • Experience supporting commercial, healthcare, industrial, educational, or government projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Experience

  • Mechanical contractor experience.
  • Design-build project experience.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record.
  • BIM coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of California Title 24 requirements.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial and industrial mechanical systems.
  • LEED accreditation or sustainable design experience.
