Senior Construction Estimator

Location: Houston, TX
Compensation: $130,000 - $180,000+ Base Salary (Experience Dependent)

A highly respected, privately held commercial general contractor with a long-standing reputation for quality, integrity, and repeat business is seeking a Senior Construction Estimator to join its growing team in Houston, Texas.

Position Overview

The Senior Estimator will lead preconstruction and estimating efforts for a variety of commercial construction projects. This individual will be responsible for developing conceptual budgets, preparing detailed estimates, managing subcontractor pricing, identifying project risks, and supporting project pursuits from early design through final proposal submission.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and experienced in both negotiated and competitive bid work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and bid proposals.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and other project documents to determine scope and pricing requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and consultants.
  • Evaluate project risks, identify value engineering opportunities, and develop cost-saving recommendations.
  • Assist in developing preliminary schedules, logistics plans, and procurement strategies.
  • Maintain knowledge of market conditions, labor rates, material pricing, and industry trends.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to project execution.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor.
  • Proven experience estimating projects ranging from approximately $3M to $100M+.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and building systems.
  • Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
