Senior Systems Administrator

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to design, maintain, and secure our core IT infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability and performance of servers, networks, virtualization platforms, and cloud services while supporting a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will combine deep hands-on technical expertise in systems, networking, and security with strong troubleshooting, automation, and project delivery skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain Windows Server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy (GPO) and Entra/Entra ID integrations to ensure reliability and security.
  • Design, deploy, and manage virtualization platforms (VMware and Hyper-V) including capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle upgrades.
  • Manage on-premise and cloud infrastructure (Azure) including IaaS, identity integration, and hybrid configurations.
  • Implement and maintain endpoint and workload security tools such as CrowdStrike and Cisco Umbrella, and ensure compliance with security standards.
  • Configure and maintain network infrastructure components including switches, routers, firewalls (including Meraki, Cisco, Juniper), VPNs, and DNS to ensure stable and secure connectivity across sites.
  • Manage MDM and endpoint configuration solutions (Intune) for device provisioning, patching, and configuration enforcement.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate operational runbooks and scripts using PowerShell to streamline administrative tasks, deployments, and incident response.
  • Support manufacturing-specific systems and OT/IT convergence initiatives, ensuring minimal downtime and alignment with production schedules.
  • Plan and execute backup, disaster recovery and business continuity strategies, including regular testing and documentation.
  • Lead and participate in infrastructure projects such as server migrations, cloud adoption, network upgrades, and security improvements, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Provide Tier 3 technical support and incident management for complex issues, performing root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Mentor junior administrators and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable IT solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or Network/Systems Engineer supporting enterprise infrastructure; experience in manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy (GPO), and Entra/Entra ID.
  • Proven expertise with virtualization platforms: VMware (vSphere) and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Experience managing cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure, including networking, identity, and migration scenarios.
  • Solid networking knowledge with experience on Cisco, Juniper, and Meraki devices, and managing firewalls, routing, switching, and DNS.
  • Proficiency with endpoint management and security tools such as Microsoft Intune, CrowdStrike, and Cisco Umbrella.
  • Familiarity with firewall administration, VPNs, and overall network security best practices.
  • Scripting and automation skills using PowerShell; experience automating deployments and operational tasks a plus!
  • Experience with server and infrastructure monitoring, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Knowledge of virtualization, storage, and SAN/NAS technologies.
  • Relevant certifications preferred: Microsoft (Azure Administrator, Modern Desktop), VMware (VCP), Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), CompTIA (Security+, Server+).
  • Demonstrated problem solving, prioritization, and incident management skills under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to document clearly, and experience coordinating with vendors and diverse technical teams.
