Senior Litigation Attorney
Compensation: Base $180K-220K + Hours Bonuses
Location: Hybrid - Houston, TX
Position Overview
We're a Texas litigation firm with 70+ attorneys seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Attorney to run their own docket of cases from insurance defense, commercial litigation, and fiduciary litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all phases of litigation, including case assessment, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
- Develop litigation strategy and advise clients on risk, exposure, and resolution options; drive cost-effective outcomes while protecting client interests.
- Draft, review, and file high-quality legal documents including complaints, answers, motions, briefs, pre-trial orders, settlement agreements, and appellate pleadings.
- Conduct and defend depositions, argue hearings and motions, and try cases before juries and judges.
- Manage discovery and e-discovery processes; coordinate with experts, consultants, and outside vendors to develop factual and expert record.
- Negotiate settlements and engage in alternative dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration) to resolve matters when appropriate.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate associates, paralegals, and support staff; delegate work effectively and ensure quality control across the team.
- Collaborate with insurance carriers, adjusters, corporate clients, and opposing counsel to advance case objectives and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Oversee case budgets, billing, and matter management; track time and ensure compliance with firm policies and ethical obligations.
- Contribute to business development, client retention, and thought leadership through client meetings, CLEs, publications, and networking.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the state bar; eligible to practice in relevant jurisdictions.
- 6+ years of civil litigation experience, with demonstrable trial and motion practice experience.
- Substantive experience handling personal injury defense, commercial litigation, and fiduciary litigation.
- Proven ability to manage large, complex caseloads and lead litigation teams to successful outcomes.
- Excellent legal research, analytical reasoning, and written advocacy skills; persuasive oral advocacy and deposition experience.
- Strong client-facing skills with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and manage client expectations.
- Experience with e-discovery tools, case management software, and legal document automation; comfortable leveraging technology in litigation.
- Track record of effective negotiation and settlement advocacy, and experience with ADR processes.
- High ethical standards, strong judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to professional development.
