The ideal candidate combines strategic sourcing expertise with strong operational execution and enjoys working cross-functionally to solve challenges related to supply, cost, inventory, and supplier performance.
We're seeking a Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement operations and lead a small team of purchasing professionals. The ideal candidate combines strategic sourcing expertise with strong operational execution and enjoys working cross-functionally to solve challenges related to supply, cost, inventory, and supplier performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to a team of purchasing professionals
- Develop sourcing plans that support business objectives, operational needs, and cost targets
- Evaluate, select, and cultivate supplier partnerships to improve reliability, pricing, and service levels
- Lead negotiations involving supplier agreements, pricing structures, and commercial terms
- Identify opportunities to reduce spend and improve procurement efficiency across the supply base
- Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and capacity
- Partner closely with production planning and operations teams to ensure material requirements are met
- Manage purchasing activities within ERP/MRP systems and maintain accurate procurement data
- Review inventory trends and purchasing metrics to support inventory optimization initiatives
- Analyze spending patterns, supplier data, and market conditions to support sourcing decisions
- Coordinate escalation efforts for critical shortages and high-priority procurement issues
- Track departmental performance metrics and implement improvement plans as needed
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations, and finance teams on business initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent experience will also be considered
- 7+ years of procurement, sourcing, purchasing, or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment
- Prior experience supervising or leading purchasing personnel
- Demonstrated success managing supplier relationships, contract negotiations, and sourcing initiatives
- Strong understanding of material planning, inventory management, and manufacturing supply chains
- Experience working with ERP and MRP systems; Oracle experience is a plus
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma
- Knowledge of quality-focused manufacturing environments is preferred
- Effective communicator with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
