Project Manager - Commercial Flooring
Base Salary: $70,000-$110,000 + Commission
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead commercial flooring projects from preconstruction through final punch list. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on flooring knowledge with strong project management and sales support skills to deliver high-quality installations on time and within budget. This role requires expertise in commercial flooring products and installation methods, the ability to produce accurate takeoffs and estimates, and the capability to build relationships with clients, subcontractors and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full project lifecycle for commercial flooring jobs, including preconstruction, scheduling, procurement, installation, quality control and closeout.
- Prepare and review detailed takeoffs and estimates; work with the estimating team to ensure accurate scope and pricing.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, coordinate trades and manage on-site crews to meet milestones and deadlines.
- Serve as the primary client contact; communicate project status, manage expectations and resolve issues promptly to maintain strong client relationships.
- Oversee budgeting and cost control: track job costs, approve invoices, manage change orders and ensure projects meet financial targets.
- Coordinate purchasing and logistics of materials; verify deliveries and manage inventory to prevent delays.
- Enforce safety and quality standards on-site; ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Support sales and business development efforts by providing technical expertise during proposals, client meetings and site visits.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports and closeout packages, including warranties and as-built records.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings while maintaining workmanship and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years of project management experience in commercial flooring or commercial construction with demonstrable successful project completions.
- Proven proficiency with takeoff and estimating tools (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and familiarity with estimating best practices.
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial flooring products and installation methods (carpet, resilient, LVT, sheet vinyl, epoxy, sports surfaces, etc.).
- Experience supporting sales or business development activities and the ability to communicate technical concepts to clients and stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, communication and negotiation skills; able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficient with MS Office and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore or similar).
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel regularly to job sites; willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as project needs dictate.
- Certifications such as PMP, OSHA 10/30 or industry-specific credentials are a plus. Spanish language skills are beneficial but not required.
