Job description

Project Estimator/Manager

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Estimator/Manager to lead estimating and project management responsibilities across Commercial projects, with an emphasis on piping and sheet metal. The ideal candidate will combine strong estimating skills with practical project management experience, with particular expertise in piping and sheet metal scopes. This role will be responsible for producing accurate bids, developing cost models, negotiating contracts, coordinating discipline leads and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed, competitive cost estimates and bid packages for commercial projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor scopes, and contingencies.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and site conditions to develop accurate takeoffs for piping and sheet metal systems.
  • Lead the pre-construction estimating process: solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes, obtain vendor pricing, and reconcile estimates with project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cash-flow forecasts, and cost control systems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create and present bid proposals, value engineering options, and scope clarifications to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage project schedules, coordinate trades and subcontractors, and monitor progress to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Negotiate subcontractor and vendor contracts and manage contract administration, change orders, and claims.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, field supervision, and safety teams to resolve technical and constructability issues.
  • Perform risk assessments and implement mitigation plans to protect project margin and schedule.
  • Maintain accurate project records, prepare progress reports, and lead regular project meetings with clients and internal teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of combined estimating and project management experience on commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated estimating experience with piping and sheet metal systems, including quantity takeoffs and scope definition.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience preparing bids, negotiating contracts, and managing project budgets and margins.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, spreadsheets (advanced Excel), and project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent).
  • Excellent reading and interpretation of mechanical drawings, specifications, and piping isometrics.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, communicate effectively with clients and subcontractors, and resolve project issues.
  • Experience with change order management, risk analysis, and cost control procedures.
  • Relevant certifications a plus (PMP, CCM, NICET, or trade-specific certifications).
