Litigation Associate
Position Overview
A respected litigation practice is seeking a Litigation Associate with 4 to 10 years of experience to join a team handling sophisticated and impactful legal matters. This role offers the opportunity to take significant ownership of cases, including direct client interaction, investigations, depositions, court appearances, administrative proceedings, motion practice, and trial work. Attorneys in this position work on complex disputes involving public sector, employment, constitutional, regulatory, and appellate issues while collaborating closely with experienced litigators.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of litigation from initial case assessment through resolution.
- Conduct witness interviews, factual investigations, and case strategy development.
- Draft and respond to written discovery, including document requests, interrogatories, and related filings.
- Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses for testimony.
- Research and draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other substantive legal filings.
- Represent clients in court proceedings, administrative hearings, mediations, and other legal forums.
- Participate in trial preparation and trial proceedings, including witness preparation and evidentiary presentation.
- Advise clients on litigation strategy and maintain regular client communication throughout the life of a matter.
- Handle matters involving labor and employment law, public sector issues, constitutional claims, statutory interpretation, and related complex disputes.
- Collaborate with colleagues on appellate matters and other significant litigation projects.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the California Bar or eligibility to practice in California.
- 4 to 10 years of litigation experience, including substantial exposure to discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial work.
- Strong academic credentials and a demonstrated ability to analyze and address complex legal issues.
- Excellent legal research, writing, advocacy, and communication skills.
- Experience in labor and employment law, public sector law, appellate work, or related litigation practices is preferred.
- Ability to manage cases independently while working effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Strong client service skills and experience maintaining direct client relationships.
- Interest in representing public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other mission-driven entities is highly desirable.
